ANTIQUE 19 C RUSSIAN ORTHODOX ICON OF THREE SAINTS
An antique 19th century Russian Orthodox icon depicting saints Samon, Guriy and Aviv. Hand painted in egg tempera, gold leaf and gesso on a wood panel with raised kovcheg borders. The martyrs Gury, Samon and Aviv are traditionally revered by believers as defenders of marriage and its patrons. Abibus served the Church in Edessa, in Syria, where he was arrested during the persecutions of co-Emperor Licinius. The three were burned alive and buried together.
