The panel depicts an Orientalist portrait of a man dressed in a traditional costume. Unsigned. Louis Hottot was a French artist and sculptor, specialised in Oriental subject matter and the majority of his work was in spelter. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1885 until 1898.
