JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT IN IOKI BUNSAI MANNER - A Western manner woodblock print on paper depicting the Yomeimon Yomei gate in Nikko Toshogu, the Shinto shrine where Tokugawa Ieyasu is enshrined in the manner of Ioki Bunsai, 1863 to 1906. Inscribed with calligraphy and a red seal in the print, lower right. Framed. Born in Mito in Ibaraki Prefecture, Ioki Bunsai worked in Tokyo and studied Western style painting under Takahashi Yuichi. In the last decade of his life, he lived in Nikko and produced paintings of temples and shrines including Toshogu, as well as flowers and plants in watercolour.
