ENGLISH PORTRAIT OIL PAINTING AFTER LUCIAN FREUD - An oil painting on canvas depicting a nude male portrait after the original oil painting on canvas, Naked Man, Back View, 1991 to 1992, by Lucian Michael Freud, English, German, 1922 to 2011. Signed with initials, lower right. Framed. The model for this painting is Leigh Bowery, an Australian performance artist in London and one of Freuds favourite models. Ironically, given that Bowery was renowned for his eccentric dress and passion for make up, Freud painted him here naked, slumped on a low, wide stool in the artists studio. The models fleshy back is almost sculpted by thick layers of paint. This is, in essence, not a traditional portrait but a still life of skin. Lucian Michael Freud was a British painter and draughtsman, specialising in figurative art, and is known as one of the foremost 20th century English portraitists. Master of psychological portrait.
