ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ICON MOTHER OF GOD IN SILVER OKLAD - An antique 19th century Russian Orthodox icon of Smolensk Mother of God. The mixed media icon with egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood panel. The oval shaped icon features an embossed silver riza, or oklad. The backside of the icon is covered with velvet. The icon has a ring for hanging. Hallmark of 84 silver standard and makers marks are on the riza. Mother of God of Smolensk is a highly venerated Orthodox icon of Hodegetria iconography.
