MID CENTURY AMERICAN OIL PAINTING BY ERWIN WENDING - Erwin Wedding,1900 to 1993, German, American, an oil painting on canvas depicting two figures. Signed lower left. The figures are painted in a highly expressive, impasto style with visible brushstrokes. The colors are vibrant, using greens, blues, purples, and browns. The background shows a simplified landscape of green fields and trees. Erwin Wending was an American abstract artist born in Germany. In 1914, following the completion of his studies at the Dresden Art Academy, he immigrated to the Land of Israel. In 1939, he traveled to Paris, to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Following the German occupation of France in June 1940, he fled to London, where he received a grant to study at the St. Martins School of Art. In 1947, he immigrated to New York.
