MODERN FRENCH GRAPHITE PAINTING SIGNED F GILOT - A Modern graphite painting on paper depicting a Figurative still life with glasses and vases. Signed F. Gilot, and dated 1949, lower right. Framed. Francoise Gilot, 1921 to 2023, is a French painter of the Post World War II School. Gilot was an accomplished artist, notably in watercolors and ceramics, and a bestselling memoirist of the book Life with Picasso. At the age of 21 she met Pablo Picasso, and the two embarked on a ten year relationship. Gilot is considered by some to have been his muse, and though her work during this time was influenced by Picassos Cubism, her paintings are characterized by a preference for organic forms over Picassos use of sharp angles.
