After an artwork from the 1892 series The Fifty-four Chapters of the Tale of Genji by Ogata Gekko, 1859 to 1920, a Japanese ukiyo-e artist. The Tale of Genji, or Genji Monogatari, is a classic work of Japanese literature written by the noblewoman, poet, and lady-in-waiting Murasaki Shikibu around the peak of the Heian period, in the early 11th century. The work is a unique depiction of the lifestyles of high courtiers during the Heian period. This lot is an illustration for the chapter 17, Comparison of Paintings.
