The chevron indicates the the portrayed is a petty officer, 2nd class. The armband with inscription PT-187 refers to the Elco Motor Torpedo Boat which launched in 1943 and placed out of service in 1945. It was assigned to the South Pacific and was active in New Guinea and the Philippines. Service at the Asian front is also highlighted by a patch with a dragon on the officers sleeve. Unsigned.
