JEWISH UKRAINIAN ARTIST ILIA SCHENKER - Ilya Shenker (1920 – 2013). Men Head. /Paper / Etching/?/Artist signature – lower right. 1967. Ilya Shenker was born on August 23, 1920 in Odessa. After graduating from school, he entered the architectural faculty of the Odessa Construction Institute. At the same time, he attended art school as a free listener. Three years after the start of his studies, the Great Patriotic War began and Ilya Shenker was drafted into the army. He ended the war in 1945 in Berlin. After the end of the war, he returned to his 3rd year at the institute. After graduating from college, he worked as an architect in Odessa for 20 years. All this time he continued to draw. Since 1957, he participated in exhibitions in the USSR, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Egypt. In 1960 he was admitted to the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1974 he emigrated to the USA, where he continued his career as an artist. The paintings are kept in many museums around the world and in private collections. Ilya Shenker died in New York in 2013.
