NICOLAE TONITZA ROMANIAN SIGNED RURAL OIL PAINTING - An oil painting on canvas relined on panel depicting a rural genre scene. Signed, Tonitza, lower right. Framed. An engraved plate is on the front of the frame. Provenance: Estate sale of a Romanian Doctor, New York City. Two stamps from the back and one label. First stamp: OPCN Bucuresti Meaning Oficiul de Patrimoniu Cultural National Bucuresti, National Cultural Heritage Bucharest Office. Second: a stamp of Ministerul Culturii al Romaniel, Ministry of Culture of Romania. A paper label with an inscription, The painting was restored by placing the canvas on a solid surface considering the extensive damage of the stretcher, on the backside. Nicolae Nicolas Tonitza, 1886 to 1940, was a Romanian painter, engraver, lithographer, journalist and art critic.
