LOUISE NEVELSON SIGNED LIMITED ED AQUATINT PRINT - Louise Nevelson, a color aquatint print on paper. Titled Lilac Edge from Aquatints Portfolio. Signed in pencil lower right and dated 1973. Numbered, 49 of 90. Provenance: a well-preserved time capsule from the prestigious Decoration and Design Building (D and D Building) in New York City, a renowned trade hub for interior designers. Louise Berliawsky Nevelson, 1899 to 1988, is known for Cubist monchromatic wood assemblage. Creator of wood assemblages made from found objects and parts of furniture doused in black paint, Louise Nevelson became the darling of the New York art world, especially during the last three decades of her life when her success was assured. This lot is a paradigm of Nevelsons works on paper, notable for its use of metallic elements, color, and collage. Nevelsons sculptures were almost entirely created in all black, with a handful of excursions into gold or white. However it was her prints where she included small punctuations or highlights in color. This work features discreet elements of lilac and gold, highlighting her signature arrangement of diverse forms that create an abstract-architectural composition.
