RUSSIAN SOVIET KGB NKVD CERAMIC BUST OF FELIX DZERZHINSKY - A rare Russian Soviet era ceramic bust of KGB founder Felix Dzerzhinsky. Made by political prisoners of Gulag concentration camp. Agitational promotional award officially issued for Russian Soviet State Security (early KGB) personnel. Usually was displayed on the desk to show achievement in fighting with enemies of the Soviet State, counter-revolution. Signed by the creator, V. Podolsky. Felix Dzerzhinsky, nicknamed Iron Felix, 1877 to 1926, was a Soviet revolutionary and politician of Polish origin. From 1917 until his death in 1926, he led the first two Soviet secret police organizations, the Cheka and the OGPU, establishing state security organs for the Bolshevik government. Remembered by secret police agents as a hero of the revolution, a large statue of him stood in front of the security service headquarters at Moscows Lubyanka Building until 1991. Meanwhile, he also became a prominent symbol of repression and brutality to critics of the Soviet Union. Gulag, short for Chief Administration of Corrective Labor Camps, was the system of Soviet labor camps and accompanying detention and transit camps and prisons that from the 1920s to the mid-1950s housed the political prisoners and criminals of the Soviet Union.
