Robert Vickreys unnerving depictions of shadow-streaked streets populated by nuns, clowns or children at play made him a leading figure of the magic realism school. He learned the technique of egg tempera painting from Lewis York at the Yale School of Fine Art. Vickreys work is now in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Corcoran Gallery and the National Academy of Design.
