BELGIAN STILL LIFE OIL PAINTING BY OSWALD POREAU - Oswald Poreau, Belgian, 1877 to 1955, an oil painting on board depicting a still life with flowers. Signed and dated 1938, lower left. Framed. Oswald Poreau is known for Landscape and still life painting. Oswald Poreau was born in Schaarbeek, Belguim in 1877 and attended a military school as a young boy. He soon displayed some artistic promise and was given art lessons by a family friend, the painter Joseph Quinaux. It was Quinaux who, realizing his potential, encouraged him to attend the Academic de Bruxelles. Here, under the direction of Jan Stallaert, he studied architecture and painting. In 1900, he graduated, and after a series of quite lengthy trips to England, Spain and France he settled in Brussels. His paintings of landscapes, town scenes and still lifes are full of color and light and owe much to the influence of the French Post Impressionists.
