AFTER JAMES WHISTLER NAUTICAL OFFSET LITHOGRAPH
After James Abbott McNeill Whistler, American, 1834 to 1903, offset lithograph on paper. After the 1862 wood engraving titled The Mayors Daughter. The artwork depicts a woman on board a ship. Signed in plate in the lower left. Matted and framed. James Whistler was an American painter active during the American Gilded Age and based primarily in the United Kingdom. He eschewed sentimentality and moral allusion in painting and was a leading proponent of the credo art for arts sake. He is also considered the founder of Tonalism.
