Undated. Framed. Kenzo Okada was the first Japanese-American artist working in the Abstract Expressionist style to receive international acclaim. He is known for the usage of muted shapes of color which hover like collages over the canvas ground. Okadas aesthetics were rooted in Zen Buddhism, 17th century Japanese screen painting, and a devotional interest in the natural world, which he used as a springboard for both color and form.
