ALEXANDER KUPRIN RUSSIAN LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING - Alexander Vasilevich Kuprin, Russian Soviet, 1880 to 1960, oil painting on canvas stretched on a board depicting a landscape. Signed lower right, dated 1943 on the back side. Alexander Kuprin was a Russian painter, a founding member of the Knave of Diamonds group. Kuprin was born in Borisoglebsk. His most famous works are various landscape, still lifes and Cubist nudes. By 1910, he had dropped out of school to become one of the founding members of the Knave of Diamonds arts association. The associations inaugural exhibition was the explosive international height of avant-garde painting of the period, including works by French artists Henri Le Fauconnier, Wassily Kandinsky, and a new generation of paintings by young Russians impatient with old schools of thought.
