Signed with a monogram F.E.C. on the lower left. Housed in an old ornate giltwood and gesso frame. Frederic Edwin Church was an American landscape painter born in Hartford, Connecticut. He was a central figure in the Hudson River School of American landscape painters. In the 1850s and 60s was one of America's most famous painters. The paintings for which he became known were landscapes conveying a serene sense of light and space, showing nature in its pure state without the presence of human beings. One of a kind artwork.
