Alfred Manessier created abstract stained-glass windows, tapestries, and paintings which show a deep interest in sacred art. Manessiers use of luminous colors and dynamic shapes merged the influence of Paul Klee with a Christian reverence for light. He studied with Roger Bissiere at the Academie Ranson in Paris. In 1937, Manessier began working with Sonia and Robert Delaunay as part of a team of 50 artists collaborating on large murals in transportation hubs of Paris.
