Axel Amuchastegui was a self taught artist born in Cordoba, Argentina. He illustrated many works which were published by The Tryon Gallery, including Birds of the World, Some Birds and Mammals of North America and Studies of Birds and Mammals of South America. He largely worked in mixed media to create highly detailed and colourful works, combining Chinese inks, gouache, and watercolours.
