ANTIQUE COLOR LITHOGRAPHS BY THOMAS AND WILLIAM DANIELL - A group of four antique colored lithographs by Thomas and William Daniell, depicting various landscape scenes from India. Each print features a title in the script below the image. Matted and framed by dark brown wooden frames. Each bears a label on the back side. English artists Thomas and William Daniell, an uncle and nephew duo, are renowned for their seminal series of aquatint engravings, ‘Oriental Scenery.’ This collection was the first comprehensive visual record of India’s landscapes and antiquities created by European artists. Thomas, born in 1749, initially trained as a painter and specialized in landscapes. In 1784, he secured the unusual permission from the East India Company to travel to India for artistic purposes, accompanied by his 14 year old nephew William as his assistant. Over several years, they journeyed extensively across the Indian subcontinent, meticulously documenting its rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty.
