The piece depicts the meeting of Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong in Moscow during Winter of 1949-1950. Signed, O.E. Prokofiev, and dated 1957 on the backside. Matted and framed. Provenance: private collection of Viktor Kholodkov. Dmitry Nalbandyan was one of the most famous official portrait painters of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the title of Peoples Artist of the USSR in 1969, as well as two Stalin Prizes in 1946 and 1951. In 1957, O.E.Prokofiev was a student of the 5th grade of Surikovs Art School in Moscow.
