Bidspirit auction | ATTR TO ELYSSA RUNDLE ABSTRACT
ATTR TO ELYSSA RUNDLE ABSTRACT MIXED MEDIA PAINTING - Attributed to Elyssa Rundle, American, 1932 to 1994, a mixed media painting on canvas depicting an Abstract Expressionist composition. Inscribed on the backside. Elyssa Rundle graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rundle worked from a studio in Bank Street in Philadelphia until 1981, when she opened a studio on West 23rd Street in New York City. Now recognized as a member of the New York School of Gestural Abstract Expressionism, Rundle took bolder risks in her approach to color, composition and proportion, encouraged by the interaction with fellow artists and feed back by noted art critics of her time. Three years after her death, in 1997, her collection of work won a grant from the Judith Rothschild Foundation. Established for the purpose of bringing recognition to highly talented, deceased artists, the Rothschild Grant helped create an inventory of the collection, and an exhibit and catalogue called The Spirit of the Paint by the Berman Museum.
