Ludwig Bemelmans was an Austrian and American writer and illustrator of childrens books and adult novels. He is known best for the Madeline picture books. Apart from his work as a childrens author, Bemelmans illustrated magazines including The New Yorker and Town and Country, and he also painted murals for luxury hotels and restaurants, such as the Plaza Hotel and Le Pavillon in NYC.
