ATTR HORTENSE GORDON CANADIAN ABSTRACT PAINTING - Attributed to Hortense M. Gordon, Canadian, 1886 to 1961, color markers on paper drawing. Abstract cloud-motif composition. Signed and dated 1956 in the lower right. Unframed. Trained at the Hamilton Art School, Hortense Gordon spent her early career making ceramics and painting traditional landscapes. Later she returned to teach art at the Hamilton Technical and Art School and became the first known female artist to teach and paint Abstract Expressionism in Canada. Gordon was also a founding member of the influential artist collective, Painters Eleven. Collectible Modernist Graphic Art, Women Artists. Dimensions 22 x 28 in.
