RUSSIAN GILT SILVER ENAMEL TORAH POINTER W GEMSTONE - A Russian gilt silver enamel Torah pointer, which is known in Hebrew as a yad. A yad is a ritual object used during the public reading of the Torah scroll to help the reader follow the text without touching the parchment with their hands. Decorated with vibrant cloisonne enamel work. The handle features intricate, scrolling floral and foliate motifs in shades of turquoise, blue, white, and red enamel. The top terminates in a realistically molded miniature hand with an extended index finger. The base is set with a cabochon gemstone. Marked with a makers mark and an 88 Russian silver standard.
