Signed and dated November 13, 1971 below. Framed. William Ridenhour began painting professionally in the mid-1960s. Although he had no formal education as a painter, his work and reputation soon attracted the interest of a number of artists of the New York School. Robert Motherwell, Jasper Johns, and Ellsworth Kelly were some of his earliest supporters. Rindenhour was represented by the Robert Elkon Gallery.
