RUSSIAN IMPERIAL SILVER BADGE SAINT GEORGE 3RD DEGREE - A Russian Imperial military silver award, the Cross Badge of Saint George, 3rd degree. The badge is decorated with the monogram in the center and numbers 71 and 302 on the arms of the cross. At the bottom of the cross, it reads 3rd degree. On the reverse side is depicted Saint George on horseback killing a dragon. The St. George Cross is a badge of distinction from the times of the Russian Empire for awarding lower ranks, established in 1807 and included in the Military Order of the Holy Great Martyr and Victorious George. It was the highest award for soldiers and non-commissioned officers for military merit and bravery shown against the enemy.
