WWI RUSSIAN IMPERIAL CROSS OF SAINT GEORGE 1ST DEGREE - A Russian Imperial military award, the Cross Badge of Saint George, 1st degree. The badge is decorated with the monogram in the center and numbers 38 and 905 on the arms of the cross. Letter G on the left arm and letter M on the right arm of the cross, which indicates Yellow Metal. At the bottom of the cross, it reads 1st degree. On the reverse side is depicted Saint George on horseback killing a dragon. The St. George Cross is a badge of distinction from the times of the Russian Empire for awarding lower ranks, established in 1807 and included in the Military Order of the Holy Great Martyr and Victorious George. It was the highest award for soldiers and non-commissioned officers for military merit and bravery shown against the enemy. Note: The cross has an original hanger.
