RUSSIAN SUPREMATIST ABSTRACT OIL PAINTING SIGNED - Oil and graphite painting on canvas. Russian, dated ca. 2000s. The artwork represents a Suprematist composition in the manner of Kazimir Malevich. Red square anchors the center of the composition and is bisected intersected by white and black crosses. Large semicircular shapes in deep black and warm ochre press inward from the edges of the artwork. Signed A in square on the backside. Suprematism is an early 20th-century abstract art movement concentrated on pure geometric form meant to be universally comprehensible regardless of cultural or ethnic origin. It is characterised by basic geometric forms, such as circles, squares, lines and rectangles, painted in a limited range of colors, and floated against a usually white ground.
