MICHEL CHEMIAKIN RUSSIAN LITHOGRAPH AND BOOKLET - Michel Chemiakin, Russian, born 1943, Saint-Petersbourg 71, Avant-garde Russe Exhibition booklet with original lithograph, produced for his 1971 avant-premiere at Galerie Dina Vierny in Paris. A fine color lithograph titled Metaphysical Head, illustrating Chemiakins early Metaphysical Synthesis period. Signed lower left. The lot included a monochromatic line-drawing lithograph, inscribed and signed lower left, dated 1974. The pieces represent Chemiakins early career and his association with the Parisian avant-garde art scene following his emigration from the Soviet Union. Provenance: Gifted directly by the artist to Suzanne Massie, 1931 to 2025, the American scholar and noted interpreter of Russian culture, whose close relationships with artists, institutions, and intellectuals in both the United States and Russia were fostered through decades of cultural exchange, including close friendships with Mihail Chemiakin and Dmitri Shagin. An informal advisor to Ronald Reagan during the final years of the Cold War specifically on topics relating to Russia, and in dialogue with figures including Mikhail Gorbachev, Massie played a significant role in advancing mutual understanding between the two nations; works gifted to her reflect this unique network of artistic and diplomatic connections.
