Provenance: Gifted directly by the artist to Suzanne Massie, 1931 to 2025, an American scholar and noted interpreter of Russian culture whose close relationships with artists, institutions, and intellectuals in both the United States and Russia were fostered through decades of cultural exchange, including close friendships with Mihail Chemiakin and Dmitri Shagin. Natalia Zhilina was a Soviet graphic artist based in Leningrad. Along with Alexander Arefyev, Richard Vasmi and Sholom Schwartz, she was one of the founding members of the Nonconformist Arefevsky Circle. She was the muse of artist Vladimir Shagin and photographer Boris Smelov, mother of Dmitry Shagin, one of the leaders of the Mitki movement. Collectible Graphic Art, Soviet Unofficial Art, Landscape.
