GEORGE EDWARD PERINE ANTIQUE STEEL ENGRAVING OF EMPRESS - George Edward Perine, American, 1837 to 1885, an antique steel engraving of the Russian Empress Maria Alexandrovna. It is based on the famous 1857 state portrait painted by the German court artist Franz Xaver Winterhalter. The engraving is housed in a decorative oval mat board and set within a striking, openwork frame. The frame features elegant, gilded rococo-style scrolling and reticulated foliage. Inscribed lower left and right. Directly beneath the portrait oval, the original printed caption reads: Her Majesty the Empress of Russia.
