The composition reflects the late-19th-century French interest in regional life and labour, rendered with finely etched linework and delicately applied period hand colouring. Published as part of L’Estampe Moderne (1897–1899), the influential Parisian print series showcasing contemporary graphic artists of the Belle Époque.
