IMPERIAL RUSSIAN MILITARY MEDAL CROSS OF ST GEORGE - An Imperial Russian military insignia, Cross of Saint George, 2nd class. Established in the February 1807 decree of Emperor Alexander I, it was intended as a reward for undaunted courage by the lower ranks of the military. Numbering of the crosses on the reverse began in January 1809. The cross in this lot is numbered 84249 on the reverse. The obverse features St. George slaying the dragon.
