Mikhail Turovsky first studied at the Art Academy in Samarkand along with Ilya Kabakov. In 1944, he went back to his native town Kyiv and attended the Shevchenko National Art School. He then completed studying under the tutelage of Tetyana Yablonska at the Kyiv Art Academy. In 1979, Turovsky emigrated to the U.S. and settled in New York where he gained international recognition.
