THREE RUSSIAN FOLK ART LUBOK LITHOGRAPH PRINTS - A lot of three Russian folk art lubok lithograph prints. The lithographs depict various scenes from Russian folk art, including Nightingale the Robber on Horseback, a religious scene with Adam and Eve, Introduction to Paradise, and a lithograph depicting a barber shaving a beard, mocking Peter the Greats decree on beard shaving. Provenance: Gifted directly by the artist to Suzanne Massie, 1931 to 2025, the American scholar and noted interpreter of Russian culture, whose close relationships with artists, institutions, and intellectuals in both the United States and Russia were fostered through decades of cultural exchange, including close friendships with Mihail Chemiakin and Dmitri Shagin. An informal advisor to Ronald Reagan during the final years of the Cold War, specifically on topics relating to Russia, and in dialogue with figures including Mikhail Gorbachev, Massie played a significant role in advancing mutual understanding between the two nations; works gifted to her reflect this unique network of artistic and diplomatic connections.
