A Victorian Jet and HM Silver Filigree Mourning Brooch - This Victorian brooch features a large, high-domed oval cabochon made of jet, a material traditionally used in mourning jewellery. The central stone is held in a rub-over bezel setting and is surrounded by a wide, HM silver metal frame. The frame is decorated with a pierced openwork border depicting scrolling filigree motifs. The reverse of the brooch is constructed with a solid backing plate and is fitted with a simple pin and C-clasp mechanism. A faint, illegible rectangular mark is visible at the centre of the reverse plate, but the specific maker cannot be identified.
