A Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Twin-Handled Dishes, Birmingham 1901, Britton, Hill & Co. 138g total. - A pair of Edwardian sterling silver twin-handled dishes by Britton, Hill & Co, Birmingham 1901. These small footed dishes are of oval boat-shaped form and feature ornate chased and repoussé decoration. The decorative scheme consists of dense scrolling foliage and flower heads set against a stippled ground, framed by a gadrooned and pellet-moulded rim. Each vessel is raised on an oval pedestal foot with matching embossed ornamentation and is flanked by two high-arched, swept handles. The hallmarks are located on the upper body near the rim and include the maker mark B over H for Britton, Hill & Co, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and the date letter b for the year 1901.
