A Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Casters, Sydney and Co, Birmingham 1907. 57g total - A pair of Edwardian sterling silver casters of graduated size, comprising a larger sugar caster and a smaller pepper caster. Each vessel is of traditional baluster form with a central girdle, rising from a stepped circular spreading foot. The pieces are fitted with pierced, domed pull-off covers, each surmounted by a baluster finial. The design reflects an early 18th-century style typical of the period. Both items are struck with a full set of English hallmarks to the main body. The hallmarks include the maker mark S & Co within a rectangular punch for Sydney and Co, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter h for 1907. Corresponding part marks are visible on the covers. Height of larger caster: approximately 15cm - 18cm Height of smaller caster: approximately 12cm - 14cm Weight: not recorded.
