An Anglo-Indian Carved Hardwood Folding Book Rack with Elephant Terminals - An Anglo-Indian folding book rack, also known as a book slide, crafted from a dark hardwood. The piece features two hinged end supports intricately carved in the form of elephants with incised and pierced detailing. The rectangular base section is embellished with deep hand-carving depicting scrolling floral and foliate motifs, set within a decorative border. The wood exhibits a dark patina characteristic of Anglo-Indian carved wares from the late 19th or early 20th century. Two contemporary paper labels are present: one rectangular white sticker on the base reading 2nd June and Lot 137, and a smaller circular sticker on one support marked with the digits 5, 7, and 8.
