19th Century Afghan Silver-Mounted Jezail Percussion Long Gun - A traditional North-West Frontier or Central Asian Jezail percussion long gun, featuring an exceptionally long iron barrel secured to the full-length wooden stock by multiple decorative silver bands. These bands are embellished with intricate repousse and chased floral and geometric scrollwork. The dark-stained wooden stock has the distinctive, deep downward-curving fish-tail butt. It is decorated with several bone or ivory inlays in geometric and curvilinear shapes, including diamond and teardrop forms. The firearm is fitted with a percussion lock mechanism. The lock plate is stamped with the date 1864 and appears to be a repurposed component from a British or European military musket, a common period practice. The barrel is fitted with a fixed rear sight and an iron trigger guard.
