A Pair of Porcelain Teabowl and Saucer in the Chinese Export Style Attributed to New Hall - A hard-paste porcelain teabowl and matching saucer, hand-decorated in overglaze enamels. The decoration is attributed to the New Hall 'Boy and the Butterfly' pattern, also known as pattern 421, which draws heavy inspiration from Chinese export porcelain of the late eighteenth century. The saucer depicts a narrative scene with a man in a blue-striped robe, a woman in a green and pink gown holding a staff, and a small child reaching for a butterfly. The scene is set in a stylized landscape with a bridge, rockwork, and a tree with red berries. The exterior of the teabowl features the child and butterfly. Both pieces are finished with an iron-red double-line border at the rim, punctuated by four small ruyi-head or floral motifs. The interior of the bowl has a central iron-red foliate spray. The undersides are glazed and unmarked, showing some typical kiln grit and small firing imperfections.
