The casing is constructed from heavy-gauge brass and is in spent condition. The base features several clear struck markings including the gun specification 3 IN 20 CWT and the Mark V model designation. The manufacturer code R. L. identifies the piece as having been produced at the Royal Laboratories, Woolwich Arsenal. It is dated 1937 and carries the letters C F, indicating it was originally intended for a full charge of Cordite propellant.
