Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Antique Wooden

A Collection of Antique Wooden Moulding Planes and Woodworking Tools - A substantial collection of traditional wooden moulding planes and a wooden-bodied spokeshave. The tools are primarily constructed from beechwood with steel irons held by tapered wooden wedges. One plane features the incised stamp J HUTTON on the end grain, which is the mark of John Hutton, a plane maker active in London during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The lot contains a variety of profiles including ovolo, beads, hollows, and rounds. Design characteristics include chamfered edges on the plane bodies and clover-leaf shaped finials on the wedges, typical of British tool manufacturing from this period.
