Reginald Aspinwall (1858-1921), River Lune at Halton, Lancaster, Oil on Wood Panel - A landscape painting by the British artist Reginald Aspinwall (1858-1921) depicting the River Lune at Halton, Lancaster. The work is executed in oil on a wood panel and features an autumnal river scene under a bright, cloud-filled sky. Large overhanging trees with rust-coloured foliage dominate the middle ground, their forms reflected in the water alongside rocky outcrops. The artist has employed an impressionistic technique with thick impasto brushwork used to define the texture of the vegetation and stones, contrasting with smoother strokes in the sky and water. The painting is signed Reginald Aspinwall. in the lower left corner. It is housed in an ornate, multi-layered gilded gesso and wood frame featuring decorative scroll and bead moulding. The verso of the panel retains a printed label for C. E. Ponsford, Fine Art Dealer, 240 Balham High Road, S.W.17, with a handwritten order number 7120.
