Robert Rampling (British, 1835-1909), View of Lancaster Castle and Priory from the River Lune - A topographical landscape watercolour on paper by the local artist Robert Rampling, depicting a recognizable view of Lancaster. The composition features a woman and child walking along a sun-dappled path beside the River Lune in the foreground, flanked by the skeletal forms of winter trees. In the middle distance, the arches of Skerton Bridge span the water, leading the eye toward the atmospheric, silhouetted skyline of Lancaster Castle and the Priory Church under an overcast, cloud-streaked sky.
