WWI Bronze Memorial Plaque for 276659 3rd Air Mechanic William P Shuttleworth - A First World War British Bronze Memorial Plaque, also known as a Dead Man's Penny, issued to the next-of-kin of William Parker Shuttleworth 276659 Air Force 3rd Air Mechanic (AM) who died October 1918 of pneumonia. The plaque is cast in bronze and features the design by Edward Carter Preston. The obverse depicts the figure of Britannia standing, facing right, holding a trident and extending an olive branch over a rectangular tablet. The field to the left contains two dolphins, while a lion stands in the foreground. At the base, a smaller lion is shown attacking a fallen German eagle. The rim bears the raised inscription HE DIED FOR FREEDOM AND HONOUR. The name of the deceased, William Parker Shuttleworth, is cast within a rectangular cartouche. The designers initials ECP are present to the right of the lions front paw. The reverse is plain and unadorned.  Diameter: Approximately 120 mm.
