Bidspirit auction | A Vintage Elwell Long Handled
A Vintage Elwell Long Handled Hedging Slasher - This traditional British agricultural tool is a hedging slasher or long-handled brush hook produced by Edward Elwell Ltd. of Wednesbury. The tool features a curved carbon steel blade designed for clearing brush and maintaining hedgerows. The blade is mounted to a long wooden handle, likely ash, via a metal socket and ferrule. The blade is clearly stamped with the maker name ELWELL above the pattern number 3747-9. Below these markings are faint characters appearing to be the start of a twentieth-century date stamp beginning 19. The construction employs a single-edged fixed blade with a distinctive hooked profile suited for pulling cuts. Blade length: 9 inches.
